Diamond is the hardest known natural substance and is safe to use in jewellery dips and ultra-sonic cleaners. Although diamond is very durable it lacks toughness in some stones due to a factor called cleavage. This means that if a diamond receives a hard blow in the wrong direction it may split.
Avoid high heat; coat stones for example, using a jewelers torch. High heat may give diamonds a white ‘frosting’. And avoid sharp knocks.
